Thank you for deciding to sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive. We’re confident that your experience as a sponsor will prove to be a unique and rewarding experience.

The following lists will help you to plan your drive and ensure that it is a success. For more creative blood drive tips, please visit our sponsor-to-sponsor section.

Site Requirements:

  • Minimum of 800 square feet of total usable space
  • Minimum of two 3 prong outlets (at separate points in the room)
  • Loading and unloading zone close to site
  • Accessible restrooms
  • Climate control
  • Sufficient lighting
  • Adequate Parking for goal and staff

Please note: our self-contained units are available for businesses and organizations who wish to hold a blood drive, but lack adequate space. Please contact your field rep for more information.

Volunteers
  • The following is an approximate number of volunteers needed for a 5-6 hour mobile
  • The Region encourages chapters and sponsors to conduct mobiles for 5-6 hours
  • Four-hour mobiles should have an additional volunteer at each station

Canteen
  • Who will be providing canteen for the blood drive, you or the Region?
  • If you are providing canteen, please include hot drinks, cold drinks, sweets, salty foods and paper products (cups, plates, napkins, etc.).

Four weeks before the blood drive:

  • Hold recruitment committee meeting
  • Recruitment committee begins direct recruitment
  • Reconfirm volunteers

 

Two weeks and one week before the blood drive:

  • Sign-up count
  • Contact ARC Field Representative (make aware of contact for the day of the drive-if not you)
  • Reconfirm volunteers
  • Begin promotion and distribution of print materials (if not already started)

Two days before the blood drive:

  • Review checklist to make sure everything has been completed
  • Talk with ARC Field Representative

Day of the blood drive:

  • Site open 1 ½ hours before the start of the drive
  • Delegate day of drive contact to meet staff –if not you
  • Site cleared
  • Tables and chairs ready and set up
  • Adjust room temperature
  • Refreshments out and available
  • Use blood drive arrows on doors
  • Have starting volunteers show up 30 minutes before drive time
